Occurred to me to try this tonight. I recalled shimming my RC Mausers to get barrel float and improve accuracy. The Rock-Ola carbine I have now is the only and the loosest fit of the six I've had, and while it shoots OK, it is not in the same league as my late 1962 RIA Inland rebuild (I miss that one). I replaced the cracked stock the Rock-Ola came in with an early RKC "I" stock. There was a lot of lateral wiggle with the magazine. I took slivers of a wooden match and knocked them home with a knife blade and a mason's hammer. Action has no movement at all now. Curious to see what this does.

You can see some of the match slivers around the magazine and trigger guard.

Theres also some good stuff by dan arnold out there.
If you have a muzzle wear gauge see what it yours gauges at.
Of my 4 only the 1 guaging less than 2 will hold the back.
Triggers suck on carbines. I have one that the trigger is ok but needs work. I have not even looked into tuning up the carbine trigger yet.
When you look at the targeting and accuracy spec they are just not accurate. I was thinking of rebarreling one and get a 1/10 or 1/12 twist ?

Atheres alot going against the poor carbine

They can shoot at least to 3moa ish heres the VT games carbine results. 100 yards on SR-1 target.

When you hook the action under the recoil plate, the action should be up at a small angle and not fall directly into the stock. The only parts of the action that touch the stock are back by the recoil plate and by the barrel band at the front. Unsure if adding match sticks around the mag will help any, probably not.

I know the barrel already floats, so we’re good there.

some tricks mods and what have you
1. blacken the sights
2. as small of a rear aperture as you can clearly see through. This can be a simple as using a small piece "metal tape" and punching a smaller hole in it. Then tape it onto aperture. or even a piece of plastic ?
3. Ammo aguila has given me my best groups and scores( shot a few cmp matches at hanson and used the carbine rather than Garand) I have not shot any usgi I would call "good"
4. Figure out something to do with the trigger? Im not sure who does them. Noahas motors in Natick or Fulton armory??

poor mans muzzle gauge. Measure of 1/16 inch intervals x4 from the case mouth on a M2 ball round. anything less than 2 is good
