Help GOAL expand the SPP in MA!

With the successful passage of Chapter 140 section 130 ½, GOAL has partnered with the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation to assist GOAL affiliated Clubs in starting Scholastic Pistol Program teams. This exciting sport is speed shooting on steel targets. It combines the best features of other disciplines to allow student athletes to practice and participate in exciting matches with less specialized equipment.

GOAL has two SPP Intro events currently scheduled. These Intro events will have information for parents, clubs and coaches. Prospective student athletes will have an opportunity to fire the “GO Fast” course of fire using .22 and 9mm caliber pistols. All safety equipment, firearms and ammunition is being provided by GOAL. Please leave your guns and ammo at home! There is no cost to participate in these Intro Events.
March 22 Taunton Rifle & Pistol Club 10AM – 2PM
April 4 Worcester Pistol & Rifle Club 10AM – 2PM

GOAL has just purchased a complete set of targets from GT Targets LLC of Collegeville, PA at a cost of $2200 delivered. We will loan the other 3 courses of fire targets to 3 affiliated clubs. The idea is to provide clubs with at least 5 steel targets so teams can practice. Clubs would then meet with other local clubs monthly, combine targets and shoot a match. Our goal is to register at least 25 4-person teams in 2015.

Here is how you can help:
1. Work with your Club to host an SPP Introduction. The Club will need one pistol bay that is at least 50’ deep.
2. Start your own team. Other than the targets, there really is not a lot of equipment needed.
3. You can donate a gun or money. Guns that are suitable for SPP may be awarded to teams for use. Guns not suitable for SPP will be sold with the funds to be used for equipment and target purchases from GT Targets and or Action Target.
4. Please make checks payable to GOAL and note SPP in the memo line. Send to GOAL attention Jon Green 361 West Main St Northborough, MA 01532. We can also take donations over the phone at 508-393-5333 ext 21.

It would be really great to see this take off...it's long odds but hopefully some dedicated people can put in the time and sweat to get the program established. I wish I could help out but I'm overextended already [sad2]

I have a shoot in the am with my son, but I'm hoping to check out Taunton afterwards. I want to bring him by to check it out, it looks like a great idea.

Nice job today Jon. My son never shot static steel before so it was interesting watching him shoot steel that didn't fall over when he hit it. I think he would like to participate on a team with other kids rather than always having to shoot with a bunch of old men...

One of the good things that GOAL got into last years gun control law was liability protection for youth pistol coaches. It existed before for long guns and GOAL clarified the law pistol coaches.

Great day at Taunton! We had about 30 people show between 10AM and 12:30PM. Kids, parents, and potential coaches braved the sunshine.. Most notably a few coaches and students from Northeastern University and two teachers from a local high school. One of the teachers ran "Go fast" in 2.47 seconds and was high for the day. One young man never shot more than a BB rifle and was in the mid 6 sec range by his 3 run. Craig Poosikian from Nauset R&G even made it Down. Alex Hartmann of OSOK Industries is hoping to start a collegiate team at a Boston University.

An extra Thanks to Rich Coffill and Ben Dewhirst from the Taunton R&P Club. They were on set-up, S/O and take down!

Give me a call at 508-641-0116 if you have questions. I have two courses of fire available for loan and the 1st two clubs that register at least one team of 4 get them.

Our next intro is at the Worcester Pistol & Rifle Club on April 4.
