I think I found it, the 7.62x54 marking may have been a mistake by the dealer, he was a crusty old guy and when I asked him if it was a 6.5 round or a 7.62x54R round he said YEAH. WTF does that mean..

I know that what I am asking can anyone find any history of the round being used in Russian Olympic rifles for the mother land. The last link I posted was as close as I could come up with.

Good find! I remember Franz Klammer winning the downhill that year. That was when the Olympics were exciting. East German "woman's" teams were great fun to watch. Plus I used to watch "The wide world of Sports" every Saturday afternoon. "The agony of defeat... ski jumper [shocked]. The USSR won the Biathalon in 1976:

You should have bought it!

I have one of the MU-12 .22lr version like in this link http://www.icollector.com/Russian-O...ction-Target-Rifle-with-Accessories_i12219840 . Only I don't have the accessory box (wish I did). It was made in 1961 and was imported by CIA. It is very heavy and seems very accurate. You use the front trigger to set the back trigger. After that all you need to do is touch the back trigger and it fires. It is a pretty cool gun.

Thanks Jason, I found the round mentioned and a TON of information on the 22 caliber version but this was a new one on me.

You have links to the info you found on the .22 version? I couldn't find much info on them when I looked many years ago.

I just purchased the new version of the rifle you own. I will look back at my search history for the info on your rifle.

If you search MT-12-2 or MU-12-2 Target rifle you will find info on them.

Hope this was helpful.

p.s. if you EVER want to sell it please give me a shout[wink]

Cool Thanks, where are the pics of the one you bought?

I posted it in the new firearms for Oct. It's modeled after your rifle except it has a sine trigger. It came with a complete shooting kit. Muzzle cap cleaning rod all the front sight inserts and jags the trigger is a lite as a feather Very heavy barrel and adjustable stock.
If you can't find the pictures I send u some. They aren't the best I used my cell phone.

is no mystery, Soviets used 7.62x54r for biatlon rifles based on Mosin action well into 60s. What's weird about it? Is not use some small homo round? The trigger is "bad"? Not enough rails for tacticool accessories?

Also the USSR made some fine ammo for their competitors and "friends" in the ComBloc countries, such as the 7.62x54R "Extra"used by the GDR's 300m shooters. I've stashed away some of it.

Fred, Greg, congrats on these nice and rare finds!

I don’t mean to chime in 7 years later but all the 7.62 Мц13 that are 7.62 have a recoil lug, that can be seen in the stock. I know a great deal about these
