I picked this one up last Wednesday for 270.00, it is a 1938 as you can see by the pics. The funny thing about this one is that instead of grinding off the waffenampts they punched them out (see pics). It also has a few stock cartouches. The sling is a repro but it came for free with the gun. Also the bore on this gun is mint, and she shoots great [smile].

Here are a few pics.

A pic of the rifle (I know it sucks but so does my moms camera).

Purty!

The thing that amazes me about the K98's is how heavy and solid they feel for such a small rifle. Add a bayonet (also built like a tank) and you've got a serious wartime boomstick. Pretty easy to understand why so many are still around, and usually in very good shape.

For anyone interested in discovering the meaning of the ordnance code stamps, there are some great sites out there like this one:

http://www.radix.net/~bbrown/codes_full_numeric.html

As you can see, the number "42" means the rifle was built at Mauser-Werke AG, Oberndorf on the Neckar in 1938.

Enjoy your piece of history!
