A friend has offered me two shotguns which I have not seen yet so no pictures. The first is a "Leverer Arms, damascus barreled, engraved 12 ga double made in 1880-1885. The second is a 12 ga double, no age, "Semmole". Can anyone tell me anything about either of these? Thank you in advance.

do not shoot that first gun because it has damascus steel. the steel weakens with age and the gun was designed to be used with black powder and it will explode if you shoot modern smokeless powder in it.

The "Leverer" is almost certainly "LeFevre". Nice wallhanger, but don't shoot it.

As for "Semmole," I'm guessing that's misspelled also.

This forum has a "FIREARMS" section. This post should have been placed there.
