Just playing around with my "new" old macro lens. These are 1:1 images.

Macro lens are nice and fun to play with, but you can get some real good non macro pics if you have a 5 megapixel camera with a zoom lens, and some good editting software.

I took this from about 2 feet away using a zoom lens and cropped it with Microsoft picture-it!

I have no tripod and find it difficult to hold the camera steady enough for the macro lens. From a distance with zoom lens works best for me.

The lighting is the hardest part.

I bought this lens on ebay to play around with. It is an all manual f2.8 1:1
Lester Dine/Kiron/Vivitar 105mm macro lens that fits a Nikon Mount. I was
shooting in Raw format for the first time which allowed me to correct white
balance at the computer. It was really cool doing this as my lighting setup is
(cough, cough) less than professional. I also have a good tripod and ballhead
as my exposure times are rather long with no flash and it wouldn't matter
whether it was a macro lens or not, I'm too shaky to get a good pic without a
'pod at longer shutter speeds.

For lighting, I use work lights from Home Depot and bounce them off the ceiling, but a good trip is a must

I think the exposure time was 15 sec

What do you call the bullets; "tops?"

Scrivener,

Did you ever hear of the term "tease line"? If so, now you know
why I labelled the thread that way. I figured a bunch of young,
horny guys would see that thread line and immediately go to it
thus assuring that I had a significant audience for my photographic
wizardry and further inflating my already unbearable ego. Right!

Regards,

TBP

PS: How's the Garand treating you?

I was hoping for an equally clever answer! [wink]

And I do like playing with the Garand! Especially now that all the CMP seems to have is Greek returns.
