I know, I know.. Why would you dump so much money into a $180 rifle? Because I can, because its fun, because ammo is cheap, because I can make it "Mine" personalized to my liking.
So.. What exactly has been put into it? OD Green Archangel AA9130 Stock, Timney Trigger, Rock Solid Industries scope mount and bolt handle kit, Barska Scope 6.5-20 x 50 AO AC10048, Leapers UTG Tactical Bipod, Barrel has been shortened to 22", and a MM M10 Muzzle Break has been welded on to Match my MM M10 AK47.
The only things I may do in the future is Cerakote the receiver and barrel for a uniform look, and upgrade the optic.

I shoot my Mosin a lot. I love it. And I haven't done anything to it. This makes me want to by another for a project gun. Very cool.

What was the cash tally at the end?

How does it shoot now? Did you pick up any accuracy with the mods. Not that I expect a lot from surplus ammo.
I hated my mosin until I took some time and fit the original stock better and did the diy trigger work.
Went from minute of somewhere on paper to grouping nice 5" groups. I can squeeze a little smaller group with reloads.... I have ventured into cast bullets for my milsurp bolt actions now only way I can really afford to shoot many different cals

That looks great.

I do have a question, why would you weld a flash hider onto the barrel. Why not just thread it and mount the flash hider?

Having a threaded barrel would allow you to change it up if you ever wanted.

I'm hoping you didn't do it because you thought you had to do it because of the AWB. As a bolt gun, its not covered by any of the AWB restrictions.

Last time I had a chance to shoot it was in the fall. At that point it only had the Stock and Timney trigger. I'm kind of a lousy shot with iron sights, so I can't really speak of improved accuracy. The feel of the trigger was a vast improvement though. Hardly any pull to speak of and such a clean break. I also like the addition of the thumb safety.

I honestly wasn't sure about the legality of having the barrel threaded for the muzzle break. I know on the M&M they had to hit it with a small weld to make it Ma compliant. In any case the shop did ask me which way I wanted to go with it and I chose to have it welded because it was the most cost effective route.

last winter I bought the timney trigger and the arc angel stock and was gonna do this.....but never got around to it and ended up selling the two products for a sweetheart deal to a member on here....Hopefully he will follow thru. You did a nice job

Zusker,

If you install a timney on a Mosin with the standard wood stock, you have to hog a bunch of wood out for it to work.

How did it go in with the Archangel stick? Did you have to do any dremel or file work?

The Timney drops right in with the Archangel stock. There is a small plastic tab that slides out to make room for the safety and thats it. The only mod I had to do to the stock was for the bent bolt handle. When I first installed it, the bolt would not close completely. I took round file, removed a small amount of material from the side rail of the stock, and problem solved.

Here are some close shots to follow up on your questions. You can see where I had to file the stock for the bolt handle, and how the stock is preformed for the Timney trigger and its safety. I added one of the muzzle break to show how clean the weld looks.

Looks awesome! I bought an M44 to do a project like this but couldn't bare to dismantle it after seeing how mint it was so now I'm looking for the right 91/30 to chop up instead. Preferably one with a junk stock, but good action. Can't wait. These threads are great to light a fire under my butt.[smile]

Why did you choose to weld the brake on?
When do see a range report?

I'm working on a build now -- got a t53 with a broken stock from xxxxxx for $79. Figured it would be a good project.

Cut it down to 16", threaded and put on a flash hider, put on a scout mount & BSA 2x20 pistol scope. Just looking for a stock now. I'm inbetween the archangel stock like yours and a nice Boyds wood stock...

Range Report:
Finally got a nice day in at the range. The first outing since the final mods were added. I put about 150rds of TulAmmo 148gr FMJ down the tube of the Mosin. The addition of an optic is by far my favorite upgrade. It took about 20rds to sight it in on clays at 100yds. The photos are the last 25rds of the day and some of the better grouping I got onto paper. I am by no means a pro so the strays are more then likely on me. These are 100yd small bore paper targets shot at 100yds.
My second favorite mod is the Timney trigger. Really makes it feel more like a modern rifle when compared to the stock trigger group. The muzzle brake and shorter barrel have significantly increased the concussion and volume of the report. In my book this is a plus.. Adds to the fun, excitement, and wow factor on the range. However, there is no noticeable difference in recoil or muzzle climb. All show, no go.
What I am most conflicted with is the Archangel stock. Well, the magazines to be precise. The look and feel of the stock is great, and the idea of a detachable mag is even better, but I had a lot of problems with them not feeding correctly. I believe the springs in the magazines may be a bit on the weak side. It seems like they are not pushing the rounds up high enough for the bolt to catch them upon closing. Most of the time a quick slap to the bottom of the mag would do the trick. Other times the mag had to be removed and reinserted.
All in all I'm happy with the build. Its fun to shoot and is a great conversation starter. Hope some of this helps with other builds out there.

Nice! Did you have any problems with the rear screw in the stock? I'm waiting on a replacement for mine. Almost done with my mosin build as well.
