My brother inlaw dropped off a rifle that has been in his family over 50yrs, never fired by anyone. He asked me to clean it & figure out what it was & the caliber. I was amazed when I opened the case & saw this mauser, Now I know nothing about mausers All I could find online was this was probably made 1944, But I cant be sure if its an 8mm nothing stamped regarding caliber. Every number is matching even on inside of the stock Natzi symbols stamped in a bunch of spots. Any info would be great Im trying to attach pics. Thanks

DOU is Brunn II, Bystrica, Czechoslovakia, and one of the two most common date/code combinations. The other is byf (Mauser) 44. Do the bands match? Front band should be stamped, not milled.

Yes both bands match Im not sure if there milled they have a weld line thats pretty crude. Very nice gun the barrel looks perfect after I cleaned the dirt & surface rust out.

To start:

1. Left receiver
2. Right receiver
3. Barrel serial
4. Band proofs and serial if any
5. Bolt root serial
6. Bolt proof under root
7. Bolt cocking piece serial
8. Bolt shroud serial
9. Bolt safety serial
10. Trigger guard and floor plate proofs and/or serial
11. Any serial inside stock channel or hand guard
