This is Florida. Here in MA, they would have waited until he fell asleep, and then let him go a la personal recognizance and an EBT card.

This got a bit of traction in the local news down here. He had a rather lengthy mental health/drug abuse history.

In 2017 Charlotte County deputies were able to talk him out of a knife situation, and he got clean and was doing ok into 2019, then fell back into the mental health/drugs cycle until the other day.

He had actually said during his sobriety after the 2017 incident he was grateful he hadn't been shot, because that day the cops would've been justified in doing so, but hadn't.

Sad.
