Folks- I've been observing the action of my new M&P. One of things the manual explains is that you need to make sure to drop the sear disconnect before field stripping. One thing I've noticed is that you can do it this way:

1) Lock slide back
2) Check empty, check empty
3) Rotate take down lever
4) Slowly move slide back to "normal" position on frame
5) Hold slide while pulling trigger (safe direction of course)
6) Slide comes off

Is this ok? Is this the only function of the sear disconnect? If so it seems like extra parts not needed to me.

Reach down into the gun and lower the green lever. It is designed so you do not have to pull the trigger.

With the slide locked open look straight down into the gun from the top. The lever is just under the ejector and pushes down easily with a pen. When you reassemble, you will need to raise it back up or trigger will not work.
