I just dug up these pics of my old HD. A friend had a junk Kevlar helmet a few years back so we took it to the range to test it out. Results as follows;

After 5 rounds of 5.56 XM193 at 75 Feet

You can see the rounds penetrated but no clean holes through the material. The bullet lost to much energy to go straight through. You can see how one round was deflected and scrapped the top of the helmet.

This is the last one. I should have taken more. the 7.62x39 went clean through and shattered the cinder block the helmet was on. .45ACP rounds just made dents and a 12guage 3" slug caved in a good portion of the helmet with out penetrating.

Hope you all enjoyed. Sorry for not taking more comprehensive pics.

Do you know whether the 1st hit was the deflection and the others were penetration?

I'm wondering whether the first hit caused a cavity and the subsequent hits used the cavity to break through it.

excellent test. that helmet can withstand abuse! it's been tested.

a lot depends on the angle and the round too. nice "real world" test. [smile]
