For those who have a K98 with a sight hood, you know the agony of trying to remove it for a take down or sight adjustment without damaging the finish or yourself . As there are no originals to go by, we milsurp collectors have had to be creative.
My solution to the problem was to buy the biggest set of belly ring pliers I could find (no, I don't have a belly ring). They cost $28 shipped, and are 10 inches long. I used my Dremel and ground down the last two indentations flat so the hood would not slip. This set up works beautifully and I have no problems; its actually very easy to use, plenty of leverage, and simple to maneuver. The prongs extend through the hood and wide enough so they do not slip or twist.
My helpful 2 cents.
