Going to be reloading some LC 08 brass today with 55 gr fmjbt. Anyone used IMR 3031 in this application? It's all I have for rifles atm wanted to see if ya'll were using this and what your experiences were.

I've loaded IMR3031 before and it worked well. I've also used mil surplus 4475 (not available anymore) which a close IMR3031 equivalant.

Depending on how you are dropping your powder, be alert for bridgeing with the stick powders in the narrow mouth of the .223/5.56 casings and work up your loads.

I've been using 28.4 grains of 3031. No issues whatsoever. I weigh every charge due to it being an extruded powder and a tendency to stick in the measure.

3031 might be the perfect burn rate for .223. Years ago I burned pounds of it through a Ruger bolt gun in .223. Could easily reach 3200fps with 52 grain bullets with superb accuracy. Using a slightly heavier 55 grain shouldn't be an issue. Just find a manual and start at the bottom.
