I just received this scanner, new in box along with a list of the local town pd's/fire/emt frequency lists. I haven't been able to find a single transmission while in search mode and when I try to program a specific channel by following the manual I just get an error message. Is this thing just a piece of junk? Is there a better online guide for this specific model, I will be the first to admit I may be doing something wrong but after rereading the manual I cant figure out what. [sad2]

Transmissions for fire are less frequent than police. Try the local gov't/school frequencies and they may be more active (DPW, etc.) just to make sure the scanner works. I can't tell where you're located, but don't trust the frequencies given with the scanner. Also, you're not going to get any trunked systems like in Cambridge with that model. Look online for frequencies. For example:

http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=1221
http://www.scanboston.com/bapern.htm
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/1496/radio/radio.html
http://home.comcast.net/~garys2/scanguide/Scan60.htm

If we're all gonna die in the 'hurricane' tomorrow, at least we should listen to it happening. [smile]
