A friend from out of town wants me to join her at a concert at Harper's Ferry in Allston Monday night. Anyone know if they have metal detectors, pat frisks at the door or the like or any other reason that CCW would be more challenging?

Thanks,
Jon

The last time I was there was 4 years ago and I wasn't carrying (not even interested at that time really) but I don't recall anything like that...
My husband doesn't recall pat downs or metal detctors either.
Could've changed in 4 years though.

I am inviting you to a social group here on NES, so just a heads up!

On a similar topic, If there were to be metal detectors whats the suggested procedure?

I've known some concerts or I even think you walk through metal detectors to watch a bruins game... Does this mean you cannot carry there?

I imagine a metal detector would cause a scene which would let everyone know you're carrying...

Red Sox at Fenway, Celtics at Bank North Garden - signs everywhere about metal detectors. I guess they don't check ankles. [wink]

Yeah, I recall my last time at Fenway the security was checking folks with the hand-held wand, but only around the belt and upper body and all I could think was "haven't these guys ever heard of an ankle holster?".

I know for a fact that sometimes Harpers will wand people. They have their usual door staff but sometimes they have contract security as well. I have seen these contracted security staff wand people at harpers. They are Wizard Security and have the bright yellow security shirts that have the wizard on the front. While they may look like rough customers, most of the people who work for Wizard are generally mello and very nice, and usually respectful. They are typically better than anyone who works for the Lyons Group in my opinion anyway.
However, they may or may not be able to find your CCW/knife/kubotan/whatever and they may or may not know how to handle you if they find it.
If you have any problems; politley ask to speak to Jeff, he's an older guy with long hair and a moustache- he is the head of Wizard. He's a generally nice guy, I have no idea if he is pro RKBA or not, and if the management at Harpers tell him no guns even with a license, I'm willing to bet he'll tell you the same.
All in all though in my travels to Harper's the Harpers staff and Wizard staff have been pretty chill and I've never known them to be the "kick your ass" manhandler type staff of some other Boston area clubs.

I used to go to Harper's Ferry quite a bit to see Two Ton Shoe. It's been a few years, but I don't recall ever being frisked or wanded. I did, however, almost get my ass kicked there by a drunk off-duty Boston LEO who was looking to scrap - but he was escorted promptly and professionally from the premises. He was a friend prior to that night.

Great club though.
