GA - Customer Shoots Armed Would-Be Robber

A convenience store customer allegedly shot a robbery suspect in the chest Saturday afternoon.

Columbus Police are continuing to investigate the incident that happened at Circle K on Manchester Expressway around 1:45 p.m. Police say two men entered the convenience store, one armed with a pistol and pointed it at a store employee.....

“The suspect actually pointed his weapon at the customer by brandishing it about and making it dangerous for anybody in there,” police Maj. Gene Hillhouse said. “I think the investigators considered it an act of self-defense.”

But the customer, whose identity has not been released, did not have a carry license for the handgun he used to shoot Keith Antonio Campbell, and police have not ruled out charging him for that offense, Lt. Ronald Hastings said.

“There’s still the possibility that he’ll be charged with a misdemeanor,” Hastings said. “But it doesn’t change anything as to whether he was justified in the shooting.”
