Update Regarding the Gun Safety Day of Action and Upcoming Legislation

Gun Owners of Maine came to the State House in Augusta on Wednesday, January 3rd to make sure the side of law-abiding gun owners was heard. Our members completed several interviews and caught the eye of several photographers and journalists as we made our presence known. Please see pictures below if you were unable to attend which illustrate the course of the day.
The Maine Gun Safety Coalition bussed in hundreds of orange-clad individuals and used emotional pleas to call for restrictions on gun access in the State of Maine. We heard them feed the media information such as:
  • "The only country that has mass shootings is the United States"
  • "Forty thousand people have died in the United States from mass shootings."
We also met a woman who was present at the Lewiston Shooting, who has now chosen to learn how to use firearms to defend herself and never be a victim again - we'll have more on that at a later date!
One Example of Media Coverage:

Gun reform advocates packed the Maine State House for the first day of the legislative session

Listen to Laura Whitcomb's evaluation of what's to come this session with regards to pending legislation on Friday, January 5 on the George Hale Ric Tyler show on WVOM 101.3/103.9.
While we don't have any written legislation at this time, we know that there are placeholders for "assault" weapons bans, 72-hour waiting periods, red-flag laws and Universal Background checks.
We will make you aware of any legislation that comes forward once they have actual language, and when the hearings will be to testify against these anti-gun bills.
Please:
  • Continue to reach out to your personal State Representatives and Senators and advocate for your rights
  • Educate your family and friends about WHY gun rights are important and how removing the right of the people to defend themselves affects their everyday lives.
  • Research the candidates for office as we begin the 2024 Election season and make sure you're voting on the side of Gun Rights.
