free topo maps

Never seen a free topo map in my life. How large an area you look ing to cover? They're not that expensive per sheet.

I don't know of any free ones. My dad and I used to buy them at a little outdoor store in Worcester. I can't remember the name for the life of me so this might not be much help. It was up on East Mountain St. I couldn't tell you if they still sell them, I don't remember a price either. They went by town I believe. I know its not a lot of info but if you try to google it they might be worth calling.

The "Gazeeter" series by Delorme isn't as detailed as a Topo map, but they're pretty good. Depends what you need it for. Far from free, but they cover entire states.

EDIT .. just called New england backpacker .. thaey have every town in the st ... and if the town falls under 4 maps .. they have all four , in surplus ! Thanks brian

That is exactly what I to to keep track of the places I hunt. I use Google earth and one of the free topo map overlays that are available. http://www.kk.org/cooltools/archives/002970.php

There are many available these days.
