Somersworth home invasion victims bound: Five gun- and machete-toting suspects sought

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

SOMERSWORTH — Police found five people bound with duct tape and plastic ties in their home at 35 Coles Pond Road early Monday morning.

Police said officers responded to the home at roughly 2:25 a.m. after receiving a call from someone who said the residents had been bound by five individuals armed with handguns and machetes and looking for cash.

Each resident suffered minor injuries during what police deemed to be a home invasion, and one person was taken to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital to be treated for injuries sustained from being pistol-whipped during the break-in, said Capt. Russ Timmons. He said the victim taken to the hospital was released later Monday.

Timmons said he didn't think any of the residents were "sliced" or "cut" with the machetes, and police haven't disclosed their names. He declined to say who placed the initial phone call to police.

Police said their investigation revealed that four black men and one white man, all dressed in dark clothing, broke into the home looking for money. Police said the suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of money, and Timmons said there was no further description of the assailants or a vehicle they may have used.

The suspects left before officers could arrive, said police. Timmons said the case is still under investigation, and it was unclear whether the break-in is related to any other home invasions in the area.

A day before the home invasion, officers arrested 19 people at the home due to an alleged underage drinking party. Among the individuals arrested was David Gregoire, 23, of 35 Coles Pond Road, who was charged with hosting the party.

Timmons declined to confirm if Gregoire was at the home at the time of the invasion Monday. He also declined to say if the invasion and house party are somehow linked, stating that police are "not confident enough to say we've made that connection" because the home invasion is still under investigation.

Police said anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Somersworth Police Department at 692-3131 or 692-9111.
