CA - Intruder Shot By Homeowner, Walks Out Of Hospital

Monterey County sheriff's deputies are searching for a Prunedale burglary suspect who escaped from a hospital after seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to the leg.

The homeowners told deputies the suspect rang the bell at their gate and after they didn't answer he walked up to the house and knocked on the front door.

Cmdr. Mike Richards said that again the residents didn't answer but they noticed the suspect Bowers go around to the back of the house.

When he came back to the front door, Bowers forced it open, Richards said.

Richards said sheriff's officials have no intention of pursuing charges against the man who shot Bowers because he was threatened and acted in self-defense.
