Didn't realize that. Does the FFL need to verify the SN on the firearm or can they log it in using a bill of material/packing slip which is on the outside of the box?
it also would be a good idea to include a packing list and tape all items together even though they are wrapped separately. possible leaving SN visible.
The packing list is a great idea. I'll have to remember that next time I ship something.
RE FFL checking SN
Like I said before. The FFL has until the end of the next business day to log an item in.
Anyone who has worked in a gun shop for more than 10 minutes knows to open up the box to do 2 things,
1) Confirm the firearm is clear - it happens.
2) Confirm the SN on the firearm matches the SN on the box and invoice.
Once I confirm these things, I put a check next to the SN on the box the gun is in and put a piece of tape on the box holding it closed. At that point I can count on the gun inside matching the box. If I open the box, I remove or tear the tape which tells me that the SN needs to be reconfirmed before take is put back on.
On the invoice, I circle the SN once confirmed and write "OK".
