Has anyone been a member of Buckmasters? I got a call about becoming a member for 5 years, for $136.00 and was wondering if it was worth it. I am not sure how informative the magazines are
and the "free" swag was a Bucklite Max knife, hat and dvd.

There have been numerous threads on hunting based forums about what a rip off it is, and how they use deceptive and sometimes threatening tactics to not "let" you quit... fyi

These are pretty typical:

Complaint
I've been sign up for a 5 year membership that I didn't ask for nor want.
I signed up for a free hunt on line and they called and ask if I wanted the membership I said no. I started getting bills for the membership and now they have sent it to collections so I called and cant get the right department on the phone. This place is a joke I don't understand how they can just sign you up for something after you have told them no. I will be telling everyone not to order from this place they will screw you over anyway they can - See more at: http://www.bbb.org/csal/business-re...y-al-40000437/complaints#sthash.U1ULMhxj.dpuf

Complaint
Unauthorized membership fee charged & collections action threatened
A few months ago I received a call from someone offering a 1yr or 5yr subscription to Buckmasters magazine. They were pushing the 5yr subscription. I said I would consider it and to send me the information for the membership via mail. I heard nothing for 3-4 months and I just received a call saying my account was $90+ delinquent and I owed $136+ for supporting an annual hunt that already took place. I told them I did not sign up for a hunt or to support a hunt but said I would consider the membership information but never received an invoice for it. They claimed that invoices were sent - they certainly were not received. They also claimed that the membership was free for donating to the hunt. This was neither told to me or agreed to by me. The call I received was requesting I sign up for a membership. When I asked if the membership could be cancelled, they said yes but I would receive no refund because they now claim that the membership is free and the charge was for some donation to a hunt. Again, this was never discussed or disclosed to me in the initial call. Now they are threatening to send this to a collections agency within 10 days if I do not pay the $136+. I do not want the membership, did not agree to sponsor or donate to a hunt, and do not feel that I should have to pay anything as I have not received any benefits of a membership (no magazines, no free gifts, etc.) - See more at: http://www.bbb.org/csal/business-re...y-al-40000437/complaints#sthash.U1ULMhxj.dpuf

I could go on and on... full disclosure, I've never been a "member"...and frankly never will be- (at least not willingly, lol)
