So I have this Springfield I would like to shoot in single stack beginning next year. It may need some tweaks, and I definitely need belt gear.

Looking for suggestions or comments on gear

MAGWELL.
I don't want to change the mainspring housing if I don't have to. I found this wilson combat drop in http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=16413/avs|Make_3=1911/Product/1911-AUTO-EZ-LOADER does anyone have experience with this? I realize I will have to clearance the inside of my grips but I'm ok with that.
I also like the SP or TGO model from techwell http://www.techwearusa.com/techwell_system.asp any experience with these? I like my VZ grips I have now, but the G10 option on these should be comparable.

SIGHTS
I have 3 dot Novaks, I like them, I shoot them well, but It seems everyone uses an adjustable rear with a fiber optic front. Will I have a disadvantage with my current sights?

Thumb Safety
Just about all the single stack, limited or open guns I see have ambi safety. Why does a right handed shooter (me) need an ambi safety?

Clips
(magazines, are you paying attention?) I have 8, 8-round mags, and 1 more 7-round, Is this enough? yes they all work.

Holster
I have a bladetech, but I'm not happy with it. Seems a little flimsy. I have been using a comp-tac for my M&P in production, so another comp-tac http://www.comp-tac.com/product_info.php?products_id=66 makes sense for my 1911. Ready Tactical also seems popular, http://www.cpwsa.com/ready_tactical.htm any experience with either of these specifically for a 1911 in competitions.

Mag pouches
I was thinking of running two of these http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=42675/Product/79-775-SLIMLINE-OPEN-TOP-MAGAZINE-POUCHES any first hand experience ? I don't think I'll like any of the quad pouches on the market. My other choice would be six singles from ready tactical.

Belt
I have a CR Hi Torque Belt inner/outer for my production setup. If I find myself switching back and forth Ill buy a second.

Ammunition
I will be reloading, but that's an entire different tread.

Am I missing anything?

For my Springer I did the following:

Ed Brown mag well http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1347/Product/1911-AUTO-DROP-IN-MAXI-WELL

Ed Brown ambi safety http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1320/Product/1911-AUTO-WIDE-EXTENDED-SAFETY contoured on the right side for clearance on my grip height

Sights are Fiberoptic front with adjustable rear that are for the Novac cut on the slide

Holster I use is Talon Tactical. I will probably be switching to a BladeTech DOH

Mag pouches I use are from TalonTactical.com and are a standard mag holder. I really don't like the idea of the one you linked to. It would not work for me. I use 5 singles.

Double Alpha belt should be fine

Ammo, whatever works

My trigger is 3# my grips are VZ, my mags are 9MM so that doesn't help you.

All work was done by a very reliable gunsmith friend of mine and the gun functions perfectly.

Good luck

from what I understand the DOH is not legal for single stack USPSA.

"Must carry pistol so that the entire front
strap (to the trigger guard) is at or above
the top of the belt. Female shooters must
carry the pistol no lower than the heel of
the butt at the top of the belt."

You're pretty much all set. Fiber optic front sight is helpful for me, but it's just personal preference. Get a single stack magazine brush also.

So you can use a magwell (eg, like an S&A) in USPSA single stack? I didn't know that. So my bleeping MimBer might actually be USPSA SS legal. [laugh]

I use a Dawson Ice magwell, it works awesome.

Fiber optic or black front sight are the best bet, 3 dot sights just aren't as fast. But use what you got.

Ambi safeties are nice for when you shoot weak hand, gives you a nice strong place to put your thumb, but its not needed. I'm not running on my SS

Ready tactical mag pouches are nice. I use an assortment of Safariland one. Singles are much better than double, they let you get a better grip on the mag

I just started shooting SS, its actually kinda fun. I shoot a 9mm minor 10round mags

Basically it has to make weight and fit the box. No milling the crap out of the slide to lighten it or things like that. Otherwise it's pretty wide open.

I've been using a Well Widget mag well, don't look for one, they haven't been made in about 18 years. Techwear's TGO is similar. BoMar sights, with a serrated black Patridge front sight. Black out the dots on your rear sight with a Sharpie. You don't really need an ambi safety. You'll seldom shoot weak hand, and you can easily put the safety off as you draw or pass the gun between hands.
A drop offset holster is not legal for Single Stack. I use an Uncle Mike's kydex holster, works as well as any thing, and it's inexpensive. Mag pouches are up to you. The quad pouch may or may not be okay due to the 2" dimension from the inside of the belt. It does keep the mags close together and might be an issue for a hose stage.

What is the weight limit for Singlestack these days?

To OP, sorry for my bad info on holster. I will be using the DOH for L10 with my 1911

I just ordered a comp tac holster with their 20% black friday deal (code: BLACK-2011) and I think ill try the safariland pouches.

Id still like to hear something good or bad from a user of the techwell magwell

IDPA CDP is 42 ounces now, if you want to be able to use the same gun for both. (IDPA used to be 41)

I haven't tried a techwell, but the Dawson ICE no-gap is awesome. (no gap version requires special basepads though)

I didn't get the techwell because you have to use their grips.
