I was lucky enough to pick up a "cadet" Springfield trapdoor to go with its bigger brother. I would not call the barrel length short by any means but as you will read from the description there were few made and to find one in this condition, well the Milsurp Gods have smiled upon me once again
Springfield Armory Model 1884 "Trapdoor" Cadet Rifle. Chambered for the .45-70 Gov't cartridge, the Cadet Rifle wears a 29-1/2" barrel. This is the "Second Type" and is equipped with the one-piece trigger guard and the front band has both the sling swivel and stacking swivel. It has the correct "R" marked Buffington rear sight and butt plate without trap. There is a SWP cartouche on the left side of the wrist which appears to date 1884. There were only 10,500 of these second type Model 1884 Cadet Rifles manufactured and they are rather scarce.
P.s. seller is giving me the bayonet as well!!!!!
