MA has never said it is not legal to have one, they have just said FFL's can not sell them

If you were able to buy one private party there is nothing "illegal" about that.

a little more on the topic, because MA considers it a handun, and it is not on the handgun list, it is a verboten item to FFL transfer in MA, but with 99% of the AG's edicts that have no law behind them, the rule prohibits a dealer from selling or transferring a certain weapon, but not you owning one
