Does anyone know if there is a difference between 30-06 Springfield and
30-06 Winchester Ammo? Seems like a dumb question to me but I thought I
would ask.

Thanks,

TBP

Ain't no dumb question. From my experience ".30-06 Springfield" is used to refer to military ammo for the Garand rifle (and to some extent the Springfields and Enfields before). For the Garand it should meet military specs to operate the gas system properly and thus enable the semi-automatic operation of the Garand.

.30-06 Winchester should refer to Winchester-brand ammo and may or may not meet military specs for use in the M-1 Garand. Especially in the post-WWII days when more sporting rifles were chambered for this round.

This is how I have always understood the difference in these terms.

They are the same cartridge for all intents and purposes.

You may experience some functioning problems with some commercial ammo, if used in a military rifle (semi-auto). This is a function of the load, which may not be tailored for an M1 of FN-49, but works fine in a bolt-gun or Remington 742 Series.
