ADVANCED NOTICE
The Nova Scotia Rifle Association will again be hosting the NSRA Provincial Open Police Practical Combat (PPC) 1500 Match this year. This match consists of 150 rounds. Any centerfire revolver or centerfire pistol, as defined by Rule 3.3 of the Canadian Police Combat Association, for Practical Police Combat (PPC) Competition, will be allowed. Basically a service gun, no compensator or light trigger. It will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2017, honouring the Canadian Peace Officer Memorial Day. The match will be held at the Bull Meadow Range, 1751 Highway 354.
Set up, registration and gun check will start at 8:00. Shooting to start at 9:00.
This match is sponsored by the Shooting Federation of Nova Scotia and is open to members of any club, agency, law enforcement, military or security organizations. Individuals are encouraged to take part. If a group has at least four participants, they can compete for the team award.
Due to the increased participation, we have decided to add an additional relay this year, enabling us to increase registration to 56 people. Last minute cancellations last year has resulted in us deciding to have early registration and payments. Early registration will be $25 for NSRA members and $40 for non‐members. Registration on the day of the match will be $30 for members and $45 for non‐members. This cost includes a BBQ and refreshments at lunchtime. A concern was raised that trigger weights among competitors may vary greatly. We have decided to enforce the NRA rules for PPC. We will be weighing triggers to ensure that weights meet a certain guideline. The NRA PPC minimum weight for open class revolvers, single action, is 2.5 lbs. The minimum weight for open class pistols, first pull, is 3.5 lbs.
We have also looked at the use of “red dot” sights. These do not magnify or use a laser. We will allow these sights, to enable those whose eyesight may be less than some others.
We will have an equipment check to verify trigger weight, sights and that no compensators are being used. Please ensure that your guns are in order before you arrive at the match.
Those who register in advance will be sent information, which will hopefully speed up the registration process, the day of the shoot. We have set Oct 15th as a rain date.
I ask that you register at least by September 15th, to help us plan for targets and food. Last year we had reached our capacity before the registration deadline, so you may want to consider registering before that date, to save a spot.
