A New Hampshire man was arrested Friday afternoon after “School Shooter” signs were found in three towns in the state, leading multiple schools to lock down and local, state and federal law enforcement to respond to the situation, authorities said.

Sixty-one-year-old Guy Hanson is accused of placing multiple signs, including some that said “School Shooter,” in various locations around the New Hampshire communities of Barnstead, Epsom and Pittsfield, according to law enforcement.

A paper plate, with the writing “School Shooter!” on it, was one of the signs discovered and reported to police Friday, the New Hampshire Department of Safety said in a statement. A photograph of the sign was provided to the media.

A joint investigation was launched with local and state police as well as the FBI and its Joint Terrorism Task Force, and members of law enforcement were immediately sent to all the schools in the towns. Multiple schools locked down as a precaution shortly after, according to the statement.

New Hampshire State Police troopers took Hanson into custody without incident on Interstate 89 south in Warner, New Hampshire shortly after 4:05 p.m., the statement said.

The Pittsfield, New Hampshire man was charged with the felony of falsifying physical evidence as well as three misdemeanors, including making a false report to law enforcement, false public alarm and criminal threatening, according to authorities.
