It seems that if you watch one restoration video on YT, it starts feeding you a steady diet of them. There seems to be a lot of channels focusing on gun restoration ("Found this old gun in a field", etc.). Some of them seem to know what they're doing, although if you're not experienced in the topic, it can be difficult to decide if the person doing the restoration knows what he's doing.
It is, however, fairly simple to determine the ones who don't know what they're doing. IMO, the guy who starts out by spraying a rust encrusted gun with penetrating oil and then leads off by scraping the surface with the tip of a flat head screwdriver is probably not someone who's a good reference for restoration methods.
