... at work we have an ice maker...
Sometimes it makes noises that sound like human speech through a vocoder that throat cancer people speak through!
It never says anything that makes sense but it is really amusing.
It may actually be saying something.
The second trash day tube short wave set I ever picked up at the curb
(a
Howard 435A) turned on OK, but no sound came out.
Until I turned the volume all the way up.
Then I could hear the tube elements rattling
to voices, music, static as I tuned across the bands.
It turned out there was an audio output terminal on the back
which needed to be jumpered to the internal speaker terminal
instead of left open so it could drive an external speaker.
Also, back in the day someone was getting a crank call with nothing but
modem noise at 3AM once a week. When the homeowner finally convinced
The Phone Company to trace the call, it was coming from a newfangled
Coke Vending Machine at a gas station, which was cabled to a landline.
The vending machine was trying to phone the bottler to order more product.
However, the bottler had changed their number
and didn't bother to reprogram any of the coke machines.
I jump een eet.
