**** you too, Franklin Armory

Get an iPhone.

More secure.

There are a number of videos of people talking to their Androids and getting related ads.

This does not happen on iPhone.

In fact, the newer iOS has an indicator that comes on whenever the mic is opened so you can actually tell when it's listening.

My wife has an iPhone and her sister’s whole family is exclusively Apple products. All it takes is an app left open though. Or a smart TV. Or some other “smart” bullshit.

Even when an app uses the mic, the orange "mic is on" light comes on. As far as I know, this security feature has not been hacked, yet.

It may actually be saying something.

The second trash day tube short wave set I ever picked up at the curb
(a Howard 435A) turned on OK, but no sound came out.
Until I turned the volume all the way up.
Then I could hear the tube elements rattling
to voices, music, static as I tuned across the bands.

It turned out there was an audio output terminal on the back
which needed to be jumpered to the internal speaker terminal
instead of left open so it could drive an external speaker.

Also, back in the day someone was getting a crank call with nothing but
modem noise at 3AM once a week. When the homeowner finally convinced
The Phone Company to trace the call, it was coming from a newfangled
Coke Vending Machine at a gas station, which was cabled to a landline.

The vending machine was trying to phone the bottler to order more product.

However, the bottler had changed their number
and didn't bother to reprogram any of the coke machines.

I jump een eet.
That is a wild story!

How knows, maybe the ice makers voice is tuning into an errant phone line somewhere!

Maybe as rare as a silver filling picking up a radio station.

It happens!

One time I had a voice on my phone line. After listening for a while I heard them give their phone number.
Turned out the wire was touching my line back at a junction box down the way which was happening whenever it rained.

Wife visited her sister today and mentioned the solo fire pit thing. Sister said those things are nice, so and so has one, blah blah blah. 20 minutes ago she texted my wife with screenshots of her getting a bunch of spam ads from solo. All they did was talk about them in the presence of their phones, her toaster, etc.
They're always listening. On the solo though you won't regret it, great fire pit. Super efficient throws a ton of heat. He will burn half the firewood. To achieve the same amount of heat and light as a traditional pit.

I never gave this a second thought until I read this thread. I just removed a harbor freight icon from my desktop several days ago. I was looking at cheap 2 wheelers and just put the page on my desktop to get back to it quickly. several weeks now and I just removed it...suddenly i'm being sent 2-3 emails daily from harbor. never received one before, even after I was on the site, only after the desktop icon was eliminated.

I have this buddy who watches tons of asian fetish porn. An actual Asian schoolgirl showed up at his apartment!
Can you PM the link from your friend to me?
If his friend has a link to you...

You used to have to fill out The Form.

Smartphone? Smart TV? Alexa device? SOMEthing is listening, I'm convinced. A relative and her son were talking face-to-face about something goofy, and then started getting related ads.
Same here. Had a conversation with a couple relatives and joked with one about being a 'wall flower'. When I got home, there was an add for a concert by a band called The Wallflowers. Too coincidental to be chance.

Update! Their customers service team informs me that there is an ongoing sale with a similar discount right now. And the code... doesn't work.

Unless the "hackers" have access to their back-end (I contacted through the website directly) these people are just morons.

Whew! Saved a few hundred!

A coworker was telling me about some an obscure movie and when I got home and went on YouTube that movie popped up. Also was watching TV not a smart TV some movie was on but was again on YouTube and a video of that movie popped up. Don't know what to say but no coincidence.
Just pick something, ANYTHING, to talk about in front of your phone. Diapers, slippers, sunglasses will do. Just keep repeating the words with your spouse for half the morning tomorrow, and I bet you you will start seeing ads for them on your phone and computer.

YUP - especially if you pick something you'd NEVER talk about, and have never talked about, but isn't completely esoteric.

I neglected to mention that the movie appeared on my desktop computer but my conversation was by my cellphone. I have never been signed to google or YouTube on my desktop! Same as I was watching a movie on TV and something from that movie popped up on my desktop.
