right. it might be a wrong setting in their backend software. if he received it, others probably will too. if that's the case, he's helping them get in front of a bigger problem...

You may have come within 95% accuracy of reproducing the email I sent to them. I didn't ask for freebies or complain, just let them know and passed it along politely. The dickheads [hmmm]

100% - sent from their own email address (not just the display address).

If it was, it was sent by them from someone with access to their email, and the scammer knew the two products which I had viewed.

I would also point out it was just that; a discount code. No links, except to the products.

What you just described is a very common phishing technique.

1. Gain access to one Email through phishing.
2. Send phishing Emails to all the contacts there.

If they gained access to some marketing persons computer and she had some sort of file with contacts, they could have Emailed you.

OP GOT PHISHED.

So what you're saying is they ought to send me a free lower and trigger group for my pain and suffering, and for helping them realize they'd been H A C K E D.

Yeah, exactly... "Can you forward it to us" might have been nice. Maybe offer to match the offered discount, or as you say they could explain why they can't... but to go all agro and insist it didn't happen, or imply I'm sucking around for a freebie, is a little insulting and just cost them about $1400 in business. Truth be told I wasn't even going to buy anything until the discount was offered, and now that it's retracted (plus the attitude) I wouldn't want to anyway.

Franklin Armory: We make a weird gun that shoots oblong bullets nobody sells. And a trigger activator gizmo nobody can buy because we can't make enough of them. [rofl]

If you don't want to deal with tracking, use brave browser(or ad blocker extension) and always use VPN to hide you real ip address. Never have issues like described in OP

I use Brave and a VPN. Been using a VPN for 20 years and Protonmail for 6+. No social media presence outside of oddball sites. I was on the "be safe" bandwagon for a long time before the current stupidity because I grew up with spooks in the family and in the workplace, and home computers before it was cool... but sacrifices must be made, hence my stupid unrelated email account and sacrificial android phone.

A coworker was telling me about some an obscure movie and when I got home and went on YouTube that movie popped up. Also was watching TV not a smart TV some movie was on but was again on YouTube and a video of that movie popped up. Don't know what to say but no coincidence.
I've always been suspicious of the youtube app specifically in regard to this type of shit. It requires permission to access your gallery, mic and camera, among other permissions. OK at first glance that makes sense. You may want to stream or make a vid so OK it needs the camera and mic. Most people wouldn't think anything of it.

Well now you have an app owned by google that has permission to use your camera and mic. No shit it's listening. I'd be willing to bet dimes to dollars that it's running anything it hears through google's advertising algo., AI, skynet, whatever.

I have this buddy who watches tons of asian fetish porn. An actual Asian schoolgirl showed up at his apartment!
I guess it would have been just fine if the Asian schoolgirl showed up with a Zero Halliburton case full of rubber chickens, lube, and Franklin Armory triggers?

That is the sort of deep state I can live with.

Minus the rubber chickens, of course.

I'll take the lube, though.

No need to waste it in this day and age.

I'd just take the Asian school girl (over 18 please).

Had a phone conversation about golfing (which I never talk about and haven't done in 15+ years and never from this address) and three days later I got 2 golfing catalogs and a membership offer in the junk mail... and brother I have not been getting much if any junk mail lately. It was mildly concerning.

Favorite was sitting with a powered on Android phone, talking with a friend about a random car (we picked a 1972 AMC Pacer because neither had thought or typed about one in years) just to see what happens... we just made up fake sentences conversationally about the car, then went and opened the browser after maybe 20 minutes of babbling about it. Welp, myth busted... until the next day when we started getting ads for AMC replacement bumpers and various classic car suppliers on BOTH of our phones. /tinfoilon

There is no way someone MAILED you a catalog, 3rd class, to get there in 2 days. That was a coincidence.

Oh no question. YT is really helpful in this. Last weekend I was making baked beans. Talked about on Friday. Sat AM, what pops up on my YT feed? ATK bean recipe. Glad to have it.

My favorite is forgetting im vpn'ed into eastern europe or something and I start getting ads in full russian for who knows what
Wodka and Vimmin.

Was texting my brothers on Tuesday about getting a fire pit (Solo) for our dad on his birthday. Today all three of us got junk mail from this company Breeo, which is Solo’s big competitor for these portable fire pits. Anyone else in the area get that flyer today or is the targeted marketing really getting that creepy?
off topic, but i have two of the breeo's and love them. i wasn't a fan of the solo's top rim look, so tried breeo with cooking grate, and liked it so much, bought a second for the lady's house

Everything is listening, watching, learning
As much as I hate to use amazon its getting very good at recommendations and deal alerts base on my history , at work our computer has a mic and it must listen because everything we talkabout will be at the top of any seatches?

We bought a new washing machine. 3 months later, we decided to buy the matching dryer. Set the dryer up and plugged it in. The washer starts beeping, the dryer starts beeping. As if they were talking to each other. Every once in awhile, they will do it. First the washer, then the dryer. Freaks the wife out every time. [rofl]

You think that's bad, at work we have an ice maker...

Sometimes it makes noises that sound like human speech through a vocoder that throat cancer people speak through!

It never says anything that makes sense but it is really amusing.

I try to keep all my appliances compartmentalized because if not they will surely conspire against me with the government pulling the strings.

That's funny. What would an ice maker have to complain about? [rofl]

My wife locks the laundry room door after each use, to keep the tin monsters from uprising. [smile]

It's a really nice ice maker!

The cubes are perfect and delicious.

You should hear it.

It sounds like an angry grumbling man with throat cancer with an electronic speaker held to his voice box.

Whoever hears it thinks the same thing.

I'd keep on eye on your wife.
She is hiding something in that laundry room.
Set up a spy cam and get to the bottom of this!

Yeah, she doesn't want to be tumble dried in her sleep.

Wife visited her sister today and mentioned the solo fire pit thing. Sister said those things are nice, so and so has one, blah blah blah. 20 minutes ago she texted my wife with screenshots of her getting a bunch of spam ads from solo. All they did was talk about them in the presence of their phones, her toaster, etc.

Get an iPhone.

More secure.

There are a number of videos of people talking to their Androids and getting related ads.

This does not happen on iPhone.

In fact, the newer iOS has an indicator that comes on whenever the mic is opened so you can actually tell when it's listening.

It may actually be saying something.

The second trash day tube short wave set I ever picked up at the curb
(a Howard 435A) turned on OK, but no sound came out.
Until I turned the volume all the way up.
Then I could hear the tube elements rattling
to voices, music, static as I tuned across the bands.

It turned out there was an audio output terminal on the back
which needed to be jumpered to the internal speaker terminal
instead of left open so it could drive an external speaker.

Also, back in the day someone was getting a crank call with nothing but
modem noise at 3AM once a week. When the homeowner finally convinced
The Phone Company to trace the call, it was coming from a newfangled
Coke Vending Machine at a gas station, which was cabled to a landline.

The vending machine was trying to phone the bottler to order more product.

However, the bottler had changed their number
and didn't bother to reprogram any of the coke machines.

Wodka and Vimmin.
I jump een eet.
