Sometimes it amazes me what can be found on the tables at a yard sale. Luckily for me, the owner, a son of a WWI Veteran, had refused an earlier offer of $300. So, when I put $400 on the table, I walked away with this P08 Erfurt Luger, dated 1918.

Not completely matching, as the mag has a different number. But otherwise all original. Well worn grips, no import or refurb marks, 85% finish with minor pitting, and excellent patina - just the way I like 'em!

Pics, and enjoy.

God; only in Maine. I really live in the wrong state.

How's the bore? Best modern loads are Winchester White Box or S&B.

T

That might equal my M1911 with 2 mags for $700.

Niiiice, im guessing that was in Maine? Putting that out on a table here in MA would have caused a "shelter in place". Everytime I see one of those it reminds me of Hoobler in Band of Brothers.

Bore is great, shiny and sharp. Yep. Right on a table - no neighborhood lockdown needed.

And I won't fire it, even though it has all matching parts except the mag. No need to chance any damage, and then replace a part with something non-matching.

Wow, that's an incredible score!
Treat her with a bit of Kroil and the better half's surplus nylons. A LIGHT rub w/ Kroil and 000 steel wool would do, too.

I wouldn't hesitate to shoot her after a thorough cleaning and some lube, but only after the matching firing pin and
extractor are replaced by spares. Those are the parts which might break.

Probably as clean as she's going to get. I wiped her down with an oily rag, and called it perfect.

Boo. If you've never fired it yourself, it's not really a firearm, just a showpiece.

Yes. So many collectible firearms, so little time.

Son of the Veteran makes it a bring-back; post it in the September '13 Capture post.

T

Most assuredly a bringback. It may find its way into the contest. There are a few others that are far more exotic.

And where's the love, guys? I almost don't even dare to post the rest of my yard sale finds from this weekend.....

Welcome to the club. There's a hundred or so downstairs which I haven't fired yet.
Gotta make jackpot, move to NH and spend my time shooting.

Stop whining

That's more than enough of a teaser!

Anxiously waiting for more gun porn

Well, not really gun porn, just military related...

... but here goes, anyway.

1. Model 1903 training rifle, stamped P.H.S.C. 367
2. Ammo crate for the M67 Recoilless Rifle (RPG launcher, Vietnam era). The writing is difficult to see, but it held the 90mm M371/A1 HEAT (anti-tank) ordnance.
3. WWI mess kit.

Approx $40 for all.

wow, what a find, you're lucky in 1820 someone said why the hell are we part of MA and said...new state!

Well, that was the 'Missouri Compromise' of 1820 to allow Missouri into the Union as a Slave State and Maine as a Free State....had to keep things even back then...

Considering people regularly pay $1400-$1600 for Lugers not in nearly as good shape I'd say it was a pretty good weekend for yard sales up in Maine. Mag mismatch is typical, and not a huge deal.... Is that multiple crown/RC markings? I know the Erfurt Lugers are often seen with the crown / RC mark but I haven't seen many with it in multiple places and a matching pistol. Not sure if that's rare, or adds to the value but I find it interesting... Nice to see a original matched set of grips without the safety chip. Wood bottom to the mag looks solid as well, another very nice plus!

Good things happen to those that are patient, looks like by our wait paid off!

Well... not only Maine. There was a nice black powder rifle at the yard sale I stopped at in Bristol, VT yesterday, along with about half a dozen utterly pristine cowboy gunbelts. Guy knew what he had, though, and stuff was priced accordingly. Walked away with a couple of speedloaders and a nice case for them (WITH a dozen rounds of .44 Special in them), a rifle case and a nice label printer. And when I get my FFL and get the shop going I'm probably going to get some consignment stuff from him. (chatting with him it turns out that he knows Nickle - and only lives a few miles away from him, too).

As for loads... my 1915 Luger seems to like Blazer pretty well. Or perhaps it's that I'm not limp-wristing it any more. (not that I thought I was... but 30 Mauser told me to grab it with a "Nazi death grip" while shooting it. Either it likes the Blazer or the "death grip" - it fed and extracted perfectly.)
