Y'all won't believe this...pic up

I'm glad we all can makes jokes about this; I'm alive and now a day later all I basically have is a stiff neck. I have to admit I can't look at that picture for very long. I got hit so hard, the keys shot out of the ignition and the Sergeant in the picture was leaning over me to find the keys on the seat under me so I could give him the ignition key. I have a call into a RI antique car specialist body shop recommended by the guy who overhauled the car. Let's see...center rear bumper section but most likely three, right back up light, trunk lid, PONTIAC letter set ($100), reattach rear window trim, right and left rear quarter damage, ripple effect quarter damage, shock damage to muffler or elsewhere (loud), rear frame pull out, paint the back half of the car...and who knows. I'm glad the center emblem survived - they're hard to find.

Rear views are from the Doctor's office my wife manages. Front view is where I was turning. I remember my physical therapist being there and supporting my neck with towels before Doc got there. Nice to be among friends at the time.

I remember lying on the gurney on the street saying to myself, not fair, not fair...

The rest of the pics my wife's Doc took, and a happier pic of the weekend I got the car back from its overhaul...

Depending on how the insurance company values the car, you may need your neck to get enough $$ to pay for the restoration. I was in a wreck in MA over 20 years ago, found not at fault - any my insurance company paid $60K for injuries that did not show up on any medical test, but could be diagnosed only through a verbal expression of pain.

Total bummer! I am glad that you were not seriously hurt but what a crushing blow.

It totally sucks that this happened, but you have to look at the positive. If you had been in a Prius you would probably be in a wheel chair.

Your Pontiac saved your life!!

No more cars Tim. You're walking from now on....

It would be much worse than a new bumper if he walked around without his carmour....sory that was a stretch. Best wished to the op. Not much you can do in th lat situation any idea on the cause aka other drivers issues. (insert sarcastic answer below)

Both. Needs basically an identical car that has been smashed in front. Rear clip, two quarters, floor, trunk lid. Totaled value is 80% of $30K = $24K. Minus $1700 storage and towing, minus $7K in parts, minus re-chrome rear bumper pieces minus labor, minus full paint job....

Insurance companies rack up fees because they don't want to deal with a repair like that. I know plenty of guys who could fix that car easily.

The car is at a speciality antique restoration shop in RI. Of course it can be fixed, but there may be lingering problems. I've found a nicer replacement that I can put a hefty down payment on when the totaling becomes official; that's what he recommended anyway as this car is 'not correct' with respect to paint and interior. Still it was a very nice car; all 8 days I had it.

Alas, poor Yorick, I hardly knew ye.

oh that picture makes me so sad! Glad you're ok though. I wonder what the other car looked like? Must have been moving to do that much damage to something that solid!

The RI shop estimates I was hit by the other car between 30 and 35 mph to do the damage level to the car. I'm REALLY lucky to be alive with no head rest and no shoulder belt.

1955 Reloaded.

Bought this one today. Fully restored with AC. Fireside Gold on Ivory. Cost $900 less than the first one. Car is in Maryland. Now to begin dealing with the bank, insurance, registry, and shipping - but it will be worth it.
