WW II # 10 signal flares

I Don't know too much about these and absolutely nothing about the container.
It may be something totally unrelated but was hoping someone here may actually know.
The container does seem pretty water resistant any help positively identifying ?

Well I say find someone with a 10g and test one out!
I really like the individual container, looks cool.

Good lead into buying a M2 flare pistol , I think its 10g
