For those that say there are no free options.
First, there's tons of music on YT. Yes, you have to put up with Mike Bloomberg ads, and ads for junk on Kickstarter, but it's free.
Second, not everyone has a smartphone, but most people should by now. You don't need the latest iPhone or Samsung. You can get cheap, decent skinflint smartphones for short money. And if you want unlimited, get Metro like I did and save a crap-ton of money vs. Verizon, or one of the other networks.

I've taken to streaming YT "one hour of" compilations that people post on their channels for the gym. It's like a free mixtape that you can access anywhere, and you don't have to do anything sketchy to get a copy.

What time is the switch over? I hope someone records it and puts it on YT for posterity.

Oh, and someone needs to do a liner.

In a very deep, tobacco destroyed voice.....

"YOUR HOME FOR THE MOST TOBY MAC! THE NEW WAAF!!"
I was just thinking about this. I recently watched Bradley J close out WBCN after Adjuster posted it. Pretty cool to see.

I dont know how they determine what to play, but who ever makes the decision to play the same 15 songs every hour should shoulder the blame for the stations demise. Is it payola, is that still a thing ?

The last time i listened to the station was when Neil Peart died, they played all kinds of obscure songs and i thought that was cool.
It's even worse than that. Every rock station under the Entercom umbrella plays the same 15 songs every hour. Rock radio died years ago when the big conglomerates bought up all the radio stations.

$10M for a well established radio station. Shows you how little money they make. The current owners probably had to beg someone to buy it.

$10M is how much Bloomberg paid for his shitty superbowl commercial. To put things into perspective. He could have purchased a radio station and broadcast how evil guns are 24/7.

Rock will not be down for breakfast.

WAAF is pretty much the only station I listen to. I guess 92.9 is mostly classic rock now? It doesn't come in well in central MA.

i thought AAF was justin bieber, taylor swift & and everyone's favorite political commentator, katy perry. sounds like i was wrong.

i've listened to wmbr for a while now. i enjoy the eclectic programming but can do without the haitian focus on sunday mornings as well as the political trash. i don't hold it against them and still listen.

I would be nice if ETM let the WAAF crew go out with a bang like BCN, 50 years of radio is a great run, it should be celebrated

Hopefully the AAF folks have more class than the azzhat that flushed WHDH AM into oblivion ( gee thanks Jeff.. you thought it was funny, the rest of us were livid)

Unfortunately the way it works in Radio is your door key card is de-activated, your passwords are wiped, and you get escorted to the door... we'll go thru your desk and send you your personal belongings.

Carrie Sarao, Mike Hsu, and the rest of the staff deserve better.

You're a Listener and you don't get it...

A door code that doesn't work can strike fear in the heart of a radio station employee. The reason? You can always tell when someone has been fired at a radio station because the door code doesn't work anymore. Radio stations NEVER change door codes unless they fire someone. The changing of the door code almost always precedes the memo about someone being let go to pursue "other Interests". Many of us in the business consider a functioning door code proof of continued employment.

Good riddance. Most of the Djs sucked too especially Hill Mans show. Mike Shu was the only interesting one.

I've always wondered how and why WAAF went so long with Greg. Hell, I've met Greg at an event when he came and visited my work ~17 years ago. He was nice, but as a radio personality he sucked. Hsu was there back then and he was clearly better at it than Greg. Yet Greg was the person in charge, who talked with a weird monotone voice in staccato fashion. That's the complete opposite of what you'd want from a morning host. Never mind his personality was nothing remarkable. He's a nice guy, but he's not interesting.

How could they of thought he could compete against O&A and Stern when all 3 were still going? He would be last every time in every aspect. The fact that WAAF kept him on so long showed that they had no idea what they were doing and/or what to do. Even spaz left, ylou'd figure he'd be pretty comfy on that AM show. Nope. He saw better and split long ago.

In my teen years, the first job I wanted was radio DJ.
But it didn't take long to learn of the complete lack of job security for me to drop that idea.

It's one of those jobs that sounds really cool, and if you're the one in a million, you can have a pretty cush life. The odds are so against that happening it's not worth calculating.
