Wow, those numbers are eye popping. And great ammo for debate, thank you.

Even more eye-popping is that MA - often considered to have among the best overall public school system -is not among the top-spending state, and Florida is neither the worst performing nor spends the least.

    Census data

    Quality Counts annual survey.
    Florida gets a C+. 11 states got a C-. The highest score (MD) was a B+, and 4 states had B's.

    CT - C+
    MA - B
    ME - C
    NH - C
    NJ - B-
    NY - B
    RI - C+
    VT - B-

It is unreal now. My 3rd grader was doing arrays before the year ended. I don't think I saw arrays until high school. It is amazing how much farther along they are than we were.

On the flip side, I think they need to let kids be kids, too. Kids need to run free in the Summer, exploring on their own. This is how they find new things,as well as learn disappointing lessons in life (bugs don't live forever in a shoebox). They learn to meet other kids, how to find their way areound in life, both figuratively and literally.

Finally, I don't think spending more money necessarily makes for smarter kids. The kids, the teachers, and the parents all need to be on board the same train, moving them forward in life.

What are they, friggin' stupid ?????
They "study" invasive species by reintroducing the species to the very same environment they're trying to prevent invasion of ????

I'm sure they're doing this fine work with a big fat government grant too [sad2]

I heard them interview the biologists who caught it. On grabbed the head and one grabbed the tail, and they basically fought it until it got tired.

Then, because there's now way to get vehicles in there, they carried it out on their backs. They know so little about the biology of the things that they put the tracker on to learn more. Their estimate was that there are "Tens of thousands" of them, and when asked what they eat, "pretty much anything they want."

While you may not agree with the effort:

My high school class (graduated in 2000) was the first class to take "pre" MCAS tests to see how well we did. Myself, being dyslexic failed miserably.... I did not do well in high school.... When I brought a report card home with C+'s and B-'s that was a celebration and an atta boy from my mom and dad. Both parents had my back during elementary and high school. If it wasn't for them I would have slipped through the cracks. Some of today's most wealthiest and productive people are dyslexic but wouldn't attempt to write a long letter or read a book more than 100 pages. My work ethic is attributed to my dyslexia. I literally work overtime and faster than a lot of people because of this. My brain is wired to "go-go-go". If I stop, things get out of sequence and it throws me off.

Standardized testing is for the birds including the SAT's if you ask me. I also scored extremely low on my SAT's but thankfully my college of choice didn't care. (My college of choice happened to be an "Institute" and you typically come out making decent $$$)

*full disclosure - I misspelled 5 words while writing this.... thank god for spell check.

I don't know if that was a sarcastic remark towards ASHDUMP, but if it wasn't, that's pretty low. Totally disrespectful IMHO.
