WSJ/The Real Gun Control Consensus

Its articles like this that give me hope in a depressing world.....
********
Yup. After all the hysterical liberals shut up and Obama/Biden convene their little TF it will be back to political reality for the gun grabbers. We've already had this discussion and they lost but they will fail to exploit a tragedy. If they were really so concerned with gun violence they'd be marching in Chicago to protest gang violence.

This is a decent piece by Kim Strassel, who seems to have a good sense of things, but it's completely cancelled out by Peggy Noonan, who in her totally unrelated article declared that we don't need tens of millions of assault weapons in the hands of gangbangers and psychopathic youths. I assume she means us, you know, the law-abiding citizens.

Oh, in Chitcago it's gang violence...I thought it was try-outs for the next "Hunger Games" movie.[laugh]

I hope this to be true. If nothing else, it should be clear to many of us that we need to re-double our efforts to get a higher profile and make our position known.

The irony of most gun owners being quiet, law-abiding folk who mind their business is that we are on the defensive when we apparently need the same high profile organization that the idiots with puppets have.

We knew new gun laws would follow Obummers re-election. Unfortunately the massacre in CT. happened and it played right into their hands. I'm sure Barry and friends thought it was manna from socialist heaven and they had a mandate to rid the nation of the evil assault weapons. Reality sucks moonbats. You were NOT re-elected with a mandate. 57% is just over half the country, not the vast majority like you're trying to sell it. We are NOT rolling over for you and your minions. You want a fight, bring it on. Use your executive privilege at your own risk MR.President because WE are paying attention.

I get the Saturday WSJ delivered and I used to enjoy Noonan's columns but she's really aggravating me lately.

I think you mean 51%...

I hope she is right.

No need to hope, I know she is right. Anything else is the equivalent of a political suicide vest for a politician, and its more than about guns, too.

The real front where anything has a chance of happening is at the state levels. EG, in MA and CT.... I expect lots of braying and gnashing of teeth. The only thing limiting antis from completely destroying either of these states is the fact that the antis in office (at least in MA) are so incompetent and generally don't have their shit together. Everything they come up with costs money, and usually despite the moonbat affectation for gun control, they don't like diverting money from other moonbat programs to pay for gun control. The reason things like OGAM etc don't pass in MA is they would cost money to actually enforce on the back end. (FRB etc would have to get expanded, they would need money for software changes, etc. )

This task force is just a big show for the public.

Obama knows that without a solid Democratic majority in both chambers, any AWB or ban on mag capacity is DOA. Even then, it would be a huge political lift. All I see coming out of this are changes to background checks, gun trafficking laws, or maybe mental health. But things are going to get a lot worse for those of you in the liberal states. Cuomo's talking about turning New York into the next England, Connecticut's gonna get hammered, and Maryland and Illinois are trying to pass statewide AWB's. I'm sure California will pass some more laws as well.

I saw Barbara Boxer the other day on the TV she said she did not know what the concensus was amongst her collegues for a new gun ban. She was hoping they could repass the '94 style gun ban over again! I thought that was odd to hear uncertainty in her comments seeing how much traction the liberal news media has given them. Let's pray they have more bark than bite.

If a uber-blue state w/o an AWB comes out of this with just a AWB (modeled after 1994 AWB) they'll be lucky. It's the poor B's like us in MA (and states like CA, IL, NJ, CT) that need to be worried. I hope Mike is right about MA.

Mike, what is OGAM?

Yeah that's the most honest assessment I've read.. Not whos right and whs wrong but simply what obstacles it would have to overcome and why that won't happen... Hopefully
