Anyone have any experience with the WISE brand of long term storage emergency food?

It claims 25-year shelf life, freeze dried food in sealled nitrogen filled heavy mylar/foil pouches that you can cook them in. Their 4-flavor samplier pack is like $27 and they're larger sets seem to run 1.50 - 2.00 a serving, so I was wondering if anyone had experience with them.

If they are what they claim, might be worth dropping a grand for 2-months supply for 4-people.

THey are way tooo short on calories. Look at their website. THeir 3 month supply for 4 people http://www.wisefoodstorage.com/our_meals.php?content=food_supply_packages works out to 676 cals/per person per day for 90 days. This would be OK for one person for 90 days but not for 4. Also they are very high in sodium. We looked at a similar product a couple of years ago and went a different route. A couple of these might not be bad for a grab and go if you have to bug out but they wont last anywhere near as long as the can says. You would have to plus them up quite a bit with beans, rice etc.

That would be the first pouch I've seen to claim 25 years of shelf life. Only ever seen that claimed with the #10 cans. Pouches are usually more like 5-7 years. Not so sure I'd trust that the "double plastic" buckets they use to improve the shelf life are nitrogen-tight.

thanks for all the input everyone. Looked over some of their meals. Looks like 240 cals for Breakfast and 250 each for lunch and dinner. About half what you need in survival mode so family of 4 needs 720 of their servings / month, which runs $1200. Real pricy at $40 / day

Even at 1500 cals you are going to starve if it is a long event. With all the manual labor etc needed if a long term TSHTF you should be trying to store double that.

These "Emergency Food" vendors are pure FUDDERY at its worst. Thinking you can drop a grand on a "food supply" and call it done is foolishness. Better to store at least a three month supply of what you normally eat and rotate it out through normal consumption. Start with a vacuume bagger/sealer and a FIFO can rack, suppliment with buckets or containers on shelves, add home waterbath canning for veggies and pressure canning for meats/poultry. (Pressure canning eliminates the need for refrigeration/freezing)

You'll have a MUCH better understanding of exactly what you'll need to last without re-supply.
