Hi Guys,

I don't know too much about rifles, being mostly a pistol guy. I do own a PTR-91 .308, but I have not picked up an AR, AK etc (yet?).

I was wondering what the rules are for rifles being able to sold in MA. I know they can't have a high cap mag, a bayonet holder, a collaspable stock and some other stuff, but is there an approved list (like with handguns)?

Specifically, will we be able to buy a S&W MP AR here? Can we buy any of the Sig ARs?

Thanks!

No lists, no tests, no approvals for long guns.

Only requirements are that it be made in "MA Ban" configuration. So mfrs have to have two lines of products, one for free states and one for communist states.

It's up to the marketing folks at the mfg companies . . .

.... I know they can't have a high cap mag, ....
PreBan high caps are OK in MA and widely available for most rifles.
In fact, 30 rd AR mags usually sell for less than 5, 10, or 20 rounders.
It would be good to make a move soon as there may be a "feeding frenzy" in MA, in anticipation of future legislative foolishness.

Anyone know if the S&W ARs are permitted in NRA service rifle competition. Actually, I was curious if they even make an A2-A3 configuration.

Quick answer is no. it has to have the external appearance of an M-16A2 or A4. The only caveat that I would add is that the old slick side lower receivers are allowed as are the silly Colt bolt things that replace the push pins at the front of the receiver.

You can get a S&W rifle and strip it and build it into a rifle that is allowed, but why do that when you can buy one off the rack that is legal.
