A report from Houston

This is why I carry...

I wanted to share with you guys what happened to me last Christmas and why I carry now.

Two days before Chritmas I went to McDonald's around 11:00 pm to get a late night snack. I was on my way back and I entered my apartment complex without suspecting what was about to happen.

I park and start walking towards my apartment. As I did, I saw a car approching and stoping. One of the guys in the car asked me "where's the exit at?" I tought that was strange because the exit gate was in front of them.

I answered politely and he asked again. I replied and then I noticed that he had his door slightly open and then, and only then I realized what was about to happen. He got out and pointed a gun at me (looked like a PPK)and the two other guys (one with a pipe) got off the car and pushed me against another car.

They started to pat me down for my wallet and cellphone. I asked them to take everyhing but not to hurt me. Then they asked for my car. I pointed and said take it. But then I heard something that really (if the whole thing wasnt enough), really scared me : "Get in the car!"

OK, pause the story.

I'm from Mexico City and I have a couple of family members that have been kidnapped (my uncle for 4 months) so I know that I there is something you DON'T comply with is getting in the car. You are done i f you do.

OK, back to the story.

I told the guys that I wasn't to going to get in as they were pushing me towards my car and pointing the gun to my head. I keep refusing and thankfully the guy di not realize the car had an alarm and he opened the door. The alarm went off and one of the guys said "let's go". The guy pointed the gun to my head and told me to run in the opposite direction. I did. And he did not shoot. Long story short they left and I called the police, filled out a report and they are still loose.

And my family still has the nerve to ask me why I carry? That robbery changed my whole perspective and I know that if would have been carring a gun at that time, I could have used it because I saw it comnig and Im sure I could have reacted. Now this time of the year I get kinda paraniod about safety. 60 % percent of robbberies in the US occur between November and Febuary. Now I'm ready with a faithful companion called G23.

Be safe.

From someone who can almost identify (due to a very recent incident [shock] ) with that....I''m really glad he chose the option of personal protection.

(I had a flash back....)

Great to hear you are OK, luckily I have never been in that type of situation, and if I am, I am out of luck since the state of RI will not allow me to carry for protection.
