Looking to ask those who either own or have shot the Doug Koenig model S&W 1911 in 45 ACP....I'm very interested in purchasing one and would like to get some kind of review/opinion on it please.
Thanks

I fitted several triggers on my gun before settling on the short flat type. With a high grip, the pad of my finger falls on the top of the trigger, so it's more comfortable.

Do you have any specific questions on the DK? I've handled a few. They're nicely fitted, good sights, decent trigger. I've had terrible luck with the firing pin safeties on S&W 1911s though.

I also remove the grip safety and firing pin safety before i hit the Range for the first time. The FPS on the SW 1911 is usually not timed correctly

If you want to drive down to Pembroke some Sunday you can try mine. Just bring some factory ammo. I also have an early production bill board S&W 1911. It shoots just as well as the DK. I'll also bring a couple (not Smiths) in 9MM. Then you'll forget all about .45 1911's.

Thanks guys for all your thought on the DK...and " jshooter " thanks for the offer to fire one.
I guess because I've really been reading a ton on this particular model I wanted to know:

Is it worth the extra couple hundred dollars compared to a base model?
What's the big deal people make out of the " external extracter "...and what is that anyway I'm unsure?
I have read about the firing pin concerns others have and some other problems.....

Thanks for your advice.

I suggest you skip it and get a S&W E-series instead -- it doesn't have the problematic firing pin safety of the earlier S&W 1911s.

External extractor on top and an internal on the bottom.

One's as good as the other in my opinion.

what was the pull after the trigger job. was the original that bad.
I thought the original was too heavy for what I wanted it for. Bought it new in MA.
I had it dropped down to 3, 3-1/2 lbs.. It is a range gun for me, not a carry piece.
