It didn't help matters that was one of the absolute worst 9mm jhp loads ever created. At least ehen modern jhps fail they usually become ball ammo. In those days the bullets often underpenetrated or broke apart etc.
My jaw dropped when i saw modern testing of that stuff wrt how bad it was.
Ball ammo is better. Way better.
