My 10 year old daughter has shot trap with a friends 20g custom length cut stock O/U a few times and wants her own to shoot with me. I am looking at a 20g for her but she needs the stock to be shorter than factory length. I am in the New Bedford area and want to know if there is anyone local that is good at custom fitting and cutting a shotgun stock. I need to first find a suitable O/U for her and will travel if need be to get it fitted to her.

Check out Wenig custom stocks they have pre inleted stocks for most common shotguns that are designed for young women.
Cutting the stock short is not really the correct correction.
Women/girls have smaller hands and often the grip to finger distance is horrible.
Also the stock needs more toe out for girls.
Another consideration is comb height.
Then you need to consider pitch the pitch of the recoil pad dictates if your going to get beat up or not.

When I finally fitted the wenig stock to my wife's browning gold she mounted it and said
"Finally I can reach the trigger" first shot she noticed no,more slap in the face now that the pitch was correct.

http://www.wenig.com/technical-info scroll down you will see the ladies trap stock. They have inexpensive wood options. I bought the plain or standard black walnut. Not much grain to it.

If you end up with a remington 1100 or 870 I think I have a stock that's already shortened . You can have it and fit it to her best you can.

anyway you can post a pic of the stock you got from them? unless I just can't figure out how to navigate their website I can't find pics of the stocks they offer.

Yes I will tonight..... their web site does suck.....

These are higher end wood grain stocks....I still will post a pic.
The factory stock is deep in storage so I can't do a comparison.

heres some pictures .....these are mostly the "fancy" walnut but they do offer a plain no frills stock also.https://www.google.com/search?q=wen...ved=0ahUKEwi36uGR9ebOAhXQMx4KHWtLBQ8Q_AUIBygC

Left handed palm swell really adds some comfort.
The wood is very bland looking but cost much less than fancy stock....more pictures to follow I'm slow

Left handed shooter
Toe or bottom of recoil pad points out away from the shooter

The comb height and pitch are different

heres a few 1100/870 stocks already "cut" short. They may be to short for 1100 now ? I cant remember. Basically I got these from a shooter who failed "custom" fitting it themselves.

http://rustbluing.com/index.html Talk to Sergey, local in Natick. Excellent but not cheap.
I can not speak for Sergey's stock fitting skills but his repair work and modifications I have seen where very good.

If you can find a beretta 3901 RL youth model its a great gun. Comes with adjustable combs and shims to get a better fit.

Seen this poking around

BT99 micro ?

look for these used.

I coach a youth shotgun team and often face this issue. I've found the best and cheapest way to start is with a Remington 1100 and a synthetic Jack West stock from AJ's Shotgun:

http://www.ajshotgun.com/

I have one of these for the team:

Stock #1—$199.95
• Fully Adjustable Youth Model
• 13" Length of Pull
• 1" Thick LimbSaver recoil pad
• Fully adjustable cheek piece

Great youth stock with adjustable comb for $200 and all you need is a really big screw driver to install it. You can find a 1100 used for $500-$700, see if you can get a sporting model with adjustable chokes.

If money is no object buy a Caesar Guerini Syren, designed for women,

https://syrenusa.com/syren-tempio-trap/

but these cost about $5K

Don't get side tracked into needing a 20g get a 12g. They will get used to any additional weight with use and time. If your thinking "recoil" just dont. Keep words like kick, recoil, and any other words that may give notice to pain or discomfort. 12g with light loads will be fine. A light 20 g with 1oz loads will "kick",more than a 12g with 1oz loads.
If your dead set on a over under there are lots of stock options.
My advice stay clear of the entry level 500$ O/U if you plan yo shoot trap.

If you go deep you can get a PFS stock. I have one and it was cheaper than a custom LH wood stock... just about every gun I own doesn't fit me. Adjustable combs and recoil pads are not hard to install. Any how the PFS can go onto any popular OU and you just need to change the pistol grip section for different guns.

I use a CZ Redhead Premier with 28 inch barrels and its just above entry level price but a damn good gun for the money. I shoot better with it than most of the guys who got me into trap shooting do with longer barreled Citori's and the like. My daughter can't even come close to shouldering it for long(even though its only 7lbs) let alone get through a round of 25. Even if it was fit to her it would just be too heavy for her for at least a few more years. I don't want to break the bank on a crazy shotgun for her just yet but I want to get her something she can easily handle which will encourage her to keep shooting.

Both of these are excellent suggestions although the Beretta 3901 is no longer made.

Check out the Youth model from SKB below.

I have a 3901 Youth, in addition to a 20GA Browning Special Skeet that has had the LOP reduced if you'd like to take them for a test drive.

How much lighter do you think the 20 gauge she used was ? Even the citori feather lite is still only a few oncles shy of 7lbs..... really anything lighter I dont think she will enjoy the recoil much especially if it doesnt fit well.
The BT99 midas micro or the BPS micro are in that 7lb range. Believe me if the kid really wants to shoot trap those muscles will develop in no time.
think like this your only holding the shotgun for what 3-5 secounds each shot then you wait for the 4 shooters to shoot then you rest the shotgun down on a pad. If she grows tired through the round you stop her and have her take a seat if she can not proceed safely.... you can do exercises at home also. working on mounts and hold points also. 25 reps mounting the shotgun with about 30 secounds between each mount and before long she will be good to go.

and fit means everything when it comes to weight of the gun

too much forward weight and the gun feels heavy

properly fit, the weight of the gun should be balanced, and neutral between both hands

I have not handled one of these so I have zero input BUT you could easily cut a adjustable comb onto it and even if you want glue a raised rib on it.

comb kit https://graco-corp.com/product/870/

add on ribs I think they have a universal raised rib http://www.addarib.com/ that you glue on with silicone adhesive, I found aluminum minim I beams at local hobby shop and used those on my 870 field.

theres a lot you can do to a inexpensive shotgun yourself to make it better suited to the game and shooter.

Lots of good compact models out there. For eg, for semis:

Weatherby SA-08 Compact
Remington 1100 LT Youth
Franchi Affinity Compact
Benelli M2 Compact
Browning Silver Micro Midas
CZ720 Youth
Beretta AL391 Urika Youth
Benelli Montefeltro Youth

Most of these you can put adult stock and longer barrels on too.

my son is currently using a semi-auto 20 he borrowed from a friend but is complaining its heavy lugging it around oh the hunt, he is a small skinny kid about 70-80 lbs, wondering if i try to find him something better. if we go with cheap single shot then recoil is an issue but when hunting is that an issue..

This is par for the course. Lugging a rifle/shotty in the field gets heavy be it 5lbs-7lbs
A good sling is a must. One that stays put is a huge plus. After that it's nothing time in the field won't cure. If he really likes hunting the "heavy" gear won't matter. Take more frequent pit stops and rest.

If your willing to travel Coles is very good. Maybe a,bit over kill for hunting?

Wenig stocks makes a 90% inletted stock you can buy and try to fit yourself. I have a few. Not the prettiest pieces of walnut but they work.

Another place for shotgun needs is
https://www.joeletchenguns.com
Out standing guns and stocks. My trap shooting friends son had a etchen shotgun fitted with an adjustable comb and recoil pad and lasted from 12-17 years old for length of pull adjustments.

One thing to be aware of is often "youth" stocks have a poor finger to trigger length. My wife has small hands and until I bought the wenig with the shorter trigger finger length she did not like shooting. I have wenigs ladies trap stock on a browning gold.
Also the pitch on a shotgun for girls will be much different than boys. Also more toe out for girls.
