Y'know, the interesting thing about this map is how old the satellite imagery is. My neighbors house (the one that burned down?) is still there, as are the woods that belong to my neighbor behind me... which were cut down in the fall of '02.

I was in Hanau/Frankfurt a M and Schweinfurt.

Nickle, just about 45 miles north of Frankfurt.
Not many U.S. Forces left in the state, compared to the early 80's.

That's got to be near Giessen! The wife was stationed in Giessen for about a year, transferred to Frankfurt after we got married.

Giessen is just 7 miles west of my hometown.
I used to walk in and out of "Ayers Rock" pretty often in the early 80's, when I was on active duty in Wetzlar.
We had a partnership unit there, 2Bn32Armor, 1st BDE, 3rd AD.

Early 80's, I was in Shweinfurt, in a HAWK missile unit, 3/7 ADA, 32d AADCOM. We were under 4th Allied Tactical Air Force. Yes, I was Army, but the US is about the only country where Air Defense is Army, not Air Force.

In the German Bundeswehr (or what's left of it) ADA is Army as well.
