Every day I hit the classified listings , usually multiple times in one day,
to see what's for sale. And there are some great pistol deals out there,
but where are all of the rifles? If we see 2 in a week it's unusual. Do
they sell really quickly or do they just not move? I bought an M1A for
a great price and was hoping to sell a .22, but maybe there is just no
interest...??

Stumped, [thinking]

Not sure. Maybe people just hold onto them. I have one I've been considering putting up, but I doubt anyone would want it. It has sentimental value anyway.

I constantly look for rifles, though.

I was wondering the same thing actually. I'm still waiting for my license (8 1/2 weeks and counting) and i am checking the classifieds constantly and keep looking for a revolver (security six) and a rifle in .22. I think there was one rifle, a 100/22 ruger in the past few weeks. The only thing I could think of is that either of those choices would probably sell for $125-250 and for that price might just be worth keeping the gun around?

That's generally what happens to me. The one gun I mentioned is worth more to me than I could get here.

The same applies to my Sigma.

Indeed the Sigma is one gun you either love or you hate!

Lynne loves hers, and I couldn't get rid of mine fast enough.

I think the answer lies not in the question "Where did the rifles go?" but rather "Why so many pistols?"

If you have a pistol that's Mass legal, that means nothing to the rest of the country, but can bring hundreds of extra dollars if you sell it to another Mass resident. You can get a new Glock for under $500 anywhere else in the country. Here you can try and sell a 10 year old Glock for 50% more than that and you might score.

Other than the AWB, no such madness exists in the rifle market. So if you're going to go through the trouble of taking pics of a rifle and writing up the details, you might as well show it to 365,000 ar15.com members instead of 1000 northeastshooters.com members.

Of course, there are benefits to selling here too. Can't put a price on a real sense of community. There's also convenience of meeting at a local range and the awesome excuse to go shooting ("But honey, I'm selling him something"). My favorite is that you get to keep more guns in this state out of spite.

Firtree, be the solution to the problem! Put that M1A up for sale [smile] If it's the one I think it was, you only beat me because I couldn't get to the PC in time.

I heard nothing but bad things about the S+W Sigma over at GlockTalk and vowed I'd never own one because of it. A few months ago at a sand pit in So. Maine a friend offered to let me try his. I didn't want to offend him so I agreed to try it. I found I was more accurate with it than my Ruger P89 and Glock 23. I don't need another handgun but if I found one for the right price I would'nt hesitate to buy it after that experience.

I don't think the Sigma is a "bad" pistol. I just have many others I'd rather shoot. I got it for a carry piece, then picked up a 908S which I think makes a better carry.

I think it's a great pistol for the money. So isn't an Ford Escort, but I wouldn't buy one of those, either.

(sorry to all the escort owners)

I think people get rid of pistols more because they're so prone to problems. Be it bad feeding, not accurate enough, too heavy, not feeling right in their hand, or even simple things like having too many or someone having upgraded their carry piece recently.

Well I had some C&R lee endfields up for sale for awhile and a Mauser but no bites. good prices and nice guns. WHo knows. I figer alot of it has to do with where our memebers live (eastern mass) and it is easier to shoot pistols there.
