Ive been a dedicated guitar player for about 15-16 years, and in that time ive listened to and played all kinds of music.. but you know, thumbing through the musician wanted ads these days isnt what it use to be :D

Drummer looking for a band
3 years experience
Main influences include: Decapitated,Dying Fetus,Chimaira, Toxic Narcotic,Cryptopsy.
Willing to play many different styles of music
my schedule is pretty flexible
very easy to get along with!

Did you mom buy you the Dying Fetus album or was that an impulse buy?
[twisted]

I know what you mean Snake. MANY moons ago, I was lead female vocal for a group (I played a mean tamborine and I could melt most guys when I sang "Love to Love ya Baby" :D (and yeah, that song shows my age )). I did rock and roll and some disco stuff, and forget today's music, then names of most bands today are ridiculas. [roll]

Then again, I suppose my parents shook their heads at the stuff I listened to growing up.

Um... this is a joke, right? Those aren't really names of bands, are they?

Oh no , they're quite real.... [shock]
couldn't help but shake my head when I read it ....I'm willing to bet they aren't wal-mart approved :D

Good grief. Now I feel old. Just judging from the names, I'm sure I don't want to hear anything they spew sing.

Stepping in as resident "young dude", I would have to say I doubt anyone on this boards lack of knowledge of these bands has to do with age.

I for one have only heard of one of those bands and to be honest I doubt I would ever find myself listening to any of those bands music.

I am a fan of hardcore, but its pretty ridiculous when a band has to come up with an outrageous name to gain fans most likely to make up for lack of musical talent.

Than again.............I may be getting old?!?!?!?!?!? [shock]

Alan likes hard core, but even those aren't one he listens to. Although I do like DropKick Murphy's some of it. Thankfully Alan has my taste in music really ecclectic. At one point you would hear him listening to bagpipes, classical, rock, and country.

Personally, I find that a lot of bands use full-volume amplification to make up for a lack of talent. [roll] I've suffered through too many dinners at conferences where you couldn't hear the people at your table over the noise... and the idiots running the things keep telling you that you have to network and make new acquaintences and talk to new people!

As for musical tastes... my listening habits run the gamut from country to rock n' roll (anything from oldies from the 50's to (some) 80's), to Celtic (bagpipes, hammered dulcimer, Celtic Harp) to folk to classical to Baroque. Anything but rap (although there are a few pieces I like) and opera. Heck, there are even a few disco tunes I like! (Disco Duck comes to mind... :))

One of the quickest turn offs for me as far as restaurants,is if I can't hear the people at my table. The food may be good, but I would never go back if I can not have a decent conversation with the people around me.
I can't do Rap. Opera is questionable, otherwise my music runs very ecclectic.

I think that it was Duke Ellington who once said that there are only two types of music: good music and the other. I agree completely. What you need to keep in mind is Sturgeon's Law: "Ninety percent of everything is crap." That applies to classical, jazz, swing, country, western, metal, punk, oldies, opera, everything (with the possible exception of rap, where I suspect the actual value is around 99-44/100% crap).

I love good music, regardless of artificial categories. Looking on the shelf behind me I see Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bach, Enya, Mozart, Beethoven, Puccini, Pink Floyd, Bizet, Charlie Byrd & Charlie Daniels, The Platters, Led Zepplin, TMB Giants, The Sons of the Pinoeers, Waylon Jennings, Clannad, Joe Cocker, The Band, Commander Cody, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and some Tuvan throat singing that Richard Feynmann recommended when I was back in grad school.

And really loud is great in the right place and the right time. Restaurants definitely don't fit that bill, but the 1812 Overture isn't real unless you get the kick in the ass from the field pieces a split second before the sound.

Off-Topic

I am impressed to hear y'all talk about music on a gun site. I grew up only a few miles from Ted Nugent (great to see one of his quotes right here on this very site); and am a fan of many types of music. But, as a musician, I stick to rock. The band I'm currently with is Left Of Heaven (www.leftofheaven.com); and my involvement consumes a lot of time and $$$. Took me awhile to connect with any musicians out here that play my type of music (unlike Detroit where there is a pile of musicians on every street corner looking to jam - an exaggeration to make the point). Despite the time, energy, and green stuff that I invest in the music field, I'm still looking to spend some time on the range firing a handgun or two; that is, if I ever get a chance to get out and buy one :x

BTW, love the site! But, now I have to go - it's rehearsal time.

Nice toys. Mine is a violin. Played from first grade all the way through high school. I also used to do Old time fiddle contests, but haven't played violin in many many moons. Will have to pick it up again. [lol]

Hey.. Mrs Willdweasel you a fiddle player too? Cool...I've been at the devils instrument for about 5 years. I aint that great but I play some bluegrass and some swing. The fiddle is the most awsome instrument to my ears.

In high school a friend of mine got me into doing fiddle contests and her dad would play guitar for us. Had alot of fun with it. Like I said I'll have to start picking it up again, been many many moons. [lol]

Actually they're tuned opposite a guitar less the B and thin E. GDAE

Try one sometime. It can make some really wierd noises. Especially until you get bowing down and that takes some time and lots of practice.
