This thread is intended to be a centralised listing of when, where and what's going on on the moving target game. Please feel free to post your schedules, Club name, and any other info that you think makes sense!

Since I started the thread, I'll go first! [smile]

Which ones are open to the public?

And why is there such a lack of skeet fields in MA?

The vast majority of the Trap and skeet clubs are "open to the public" on at least part of the days that they shoot. As for Southborough, and likely for the other listings here, the hours listed are "open to the public."

As for "why so few Skeet fields"...it's likley that there is about an equal overall number, though one club may have more Trap than Skeet, and another club the reverse. As for why does it SEEM that there are fewer Skeeters than Trapezoids, part of it is the mindset of the sport:

Skeeter: "How come you trap guys don't talk?"
Trapezoid: "how come you skeet guys don't keep score?"

Skeet people seem, to me at least, to be more leisurely, which is based on the way the game is shot: One shooter of the "line" shoots, while the others hang back (talking! [wink]) then another rotates to shoot. Trapezoids save teh b@!! busting for after the round! [laugh]

I think that Trap people are more "agressive" in recruiting new shooter to their sport. ( Just my opinion)
A great, local, resource for Trap Skeet Sporting clays and 5-stand shooting is the Outdoor Message's listing at the back.

Trap and Skeet at Hopkinton Sportsmen's club.

Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm-9:00pm we shoot skeet in 2 fully lit skeet fields.
Sunday mornings at 9:30am-1:00pm we shoot skeet, trap and sporting clays. We try to get 5 people together before we set out on the sporting clays course.
Thursdays we shoot skeet from 10:00-1:00 pm.

All of this is open to the public. We require that all shooters shoot no shot larger than 8's for skeet but prefer that all use 9's. Sporting Clays can use 8's or 9's (no long shots that need bigger shot). We do allow 7.5's on trap, but it is not needed. Come on down.

Update: I went over to the range last week to shoot skeet. The gate was locked. I called the VP of the club, and was told the insurance company said after the Westfield incident that they had to keep the gate locked unless it was a registered shoot. He told me I could try the intercom, but my best bet was to get a membership and the key fob to get in.

HOLBROOK SPORTSMEN"S CLUB IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC EVERY WEDNESDAY 6-9 PM

Which ones are open to the public?

And why is there such a lack of skeet fields in MA?

http://www.holbrooksportsmensclub.org/beginnerstrap.htm
They provide Shotguns to borrow and sell Ammo through a outside vendor that comes on Wednesday's. They have a large warm-up house with a big screen TV and a wood stove. They sell hot dogs and sodas for a buck.
Begginers get lessons on how to shoot clays. It's lot's of fun and there's a ton of people that go every wednesday.
Even throught the winter................ see you there!

Trap - Wednesday 6:00 - 9:00 (I have found it usually actually gets going between 5:00 - 5:30 and will stop pretty much when there are no more shooters)
Skeet/Five Stand - Thursdays 6:00 - 9:00 (don't know how rigid those hours are because I've only shot skeet once - it's sometimes skeet or five stand, sometimes both)
Trap - Sunday - 9:00 a.m. - Noon (come with a member for breakfast starting at 7:00 am)

Members - $3.00 per round
Non-Members - $4.00 per round

Member 10 Round Card - $25
Non-member 10 Round Card - $35

No ammo available at the club.
