This is the caption that ran with it.

Boston Police officer Kim Platt, of the firearms analysis unit, arranges a variety of weapons for display before the start of a rally in front of the Statehouse, in Boston, Tuesday, June 15, 2010. At the rally legislators and activists addressed a crowd as part of an effort to press lawmakers to pass a gun bill backed by Gov. Deval Patrick that would limit Massachusetts gun buyers to one firearm per month. The guns on display were taken off the street and used in evidence in different criminal cases according to Platt.

A. Why the heck are our tax dollars paying to support a rally for this legislation?

B.
The guns on display were taken off the street and used in evidence in different criminal cases according to Platt.
They seized a US GI Thompson from a crack dealer (or some other type of low life criminal)? Do they really expect us to believe that somebody sold a gun worth $30-40 THOUSAND dollars to a crack dealer?

C. How could have Officer Platt possibly had all of these firearms under "her direct control" when they were sitting there like that?

From my Rep
*******
Robert,

I appreciate your taking the time to write to me concerning H4102. Please know that I do agree with you, and do support H2259. The one part of the bill that I do not agree with is limiting gun buyers to one firearm purchase per month. I do not feel that this will help deter crime. Many of the people who own guns do not have the intention to go out and kill someone; they either use it for hunting or for protection. The gun laws should be written, so that they protect the ordinary citizen, and not the criminals. Therefore, if H4102 comes out of the Conference Committee, "as is", I will not support it.

Thank you for writing; it is always a pleasure to hear from my constituents. If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Very truly yours,

Rep. Dennis A. Rosa

i hear 'ya, mike. what kind of gang banger uses a thompson? shouldn't they be sporting a glock fo-tay?

i love MA "logic". 7 guns laid out in public... yep... totally proves that we need (more) piles of legislation. i don't see any trigger/cable locks or even zipties disabling the weapons. any gun show in MA is safer than that piece of rock at any given moment.

of course some animals are more equal than others so we can trust this officer to keep all of those guns safe under her direct control--any one of us gun-toting vigilante "hatriots" can't even be trusted with more than one gun a month much less seven under our direct control at the same time!

During my brief skim of the article I didn't see any reference to a genuine US GI Thompson worth 30-40 grand. What I did see was a picture of a firearm that looks like a Thompson. Which, as you know, could be a much cheaper semi auto knockoff.

We rant and rave when the media calls out a WASR-10 as being a fully auto AK47 assault rifle. Let us not make the same tragic mistake and lose our credibility on this subject as well.

Again, if I missed it, I stand corrected. But, I didn't see the reference to the 30 thousand dollar US GI Thompson.

I haven't yet read the article, but the only firearm that I see that can be legally sold new in MA by a dealer, is the 35 year old Mossberg 500 maybe the auto ordinance as well.

Also, the muzzles are in the wrong direction.

I bet it is a new production, semi-auto AutoOrdnance.

That Thompson has been in the BPD inventory room since the 60's !!

I saw it & held it as a kid. It was a mafia shooting in Eastie in the late 50's early 60's IIRC.

No you can't buy the stuff. Dad tried.

So the BPD is showing "crime guns taken off the street" that never were on the street, in support of a law to "take guns off the street"? (which will do nothing of the sort)

That's about as logical as the law they are proposing.

And with this lunacy in mind...

CALL EVERYONE ON THE HOUSE WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE ASAP!

Polling (voting) is taking place so you need to act NOW.

Go take a few minute bathroom break and make some calls.
After all, if you are at work, you're reading this so you can't be THAT busy.

Emails can be ignored. Speaking to an aid takes up more of their time.

Melt the statehouse phone systems.

If you don't get someone right away, leave a message AND CALL AGAIN LATER!
