What's with my 1917 stock?

Picked up a 1917 Eddystone a while ago and was quite happy with it. Looked all original. However recently I notice the lower hand guard looks a little odd. No rivets and also no swale in the center. What gives? See attached.

It looks like either an after-market replacement or something Bubba got ahold of. Compare to mine in this thread:

It looks bubba'ed to me. Looks like the top was sanded down a bit.
